THEY/THEM
Nnedimmaya "Nnedi" Agbaroji is a dynamic force in the Austin music scene, bringing a blend of vocal emotion and captivating artistry to every project they touch. Born in Houston, Texas, to Igbo immigrants, Nnedimmaya moved to Austin and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012 with a B.A. in Psychology. During their college years, they served as the PR Director for the student-run station 91.7 KVRX, laying the groundwork for a career steeped in music and media.
After graduation, Nnedimmaya began their professional journey as a backup singer for renowned blues guitarist Lisa Marshall. In 2014, driven by a desire to create and perform original music, Nnedimmaya co-founded the band Trouble in The Streets alongside Andy Leonard and Robert Slangen. The band quickly rose through the ranks of Austin’s vibrant music scene, drawing inspiration from artists like JUSTICE, DeadMau5, and Rage Against the Machine. Their hard work paid off when they were named Best New Band at the 2018 Austin Chronicle Music Awards, and they soon embarked on national tours, sharing stages with icons like Big Freedia, George Clinton & The Parliament Funkadelic, and Phantogram.
In 2019, Nnedimmaya joined the eclectic supergroup Golden Dawn Arkestra., further expanding their musical horizons. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the group resumed touring in 2021, playing at prestigious festivals like Lollapalooza Chile and Estereo Picnic in Colombia, followed by a successful European tour in 2022.
Nnedimmaya’s solo journey began with the release of their debut single, "How High," through Project Traction—a platform dedicated to empowering femme and gender-expansive artists in the production field. The track quickly gained traction, earning airplay on Austin’s 98.9 KUTX.
In 2023, Trouble in The Streets released their debut LP, Satisfy Saturn, which was celebrated for its inventive soundscapes and powerful lyrics. As the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2024, Nnedimmaya began focusing on solo work, collaborating with rising talents like S.L. Houser and producer Big Mike Pereida. With multiple singles set to drop in the Fall of 2024, Nnedimmaya continues to push the boundaries of their craft, delivering music that is both emotionally resonant and musically adventurous.
